So the weekend was dope out here in the bay. Friday kicked it off with the Slum Village, Phat Kat show at Poleng. Definately if you were not there (or couldn't get in!!) then you offically missed out. Everybody who was anybody was up in the house that evening. Massive Selector definately was DEEP in the building and we had a good sweaty time up in the spot. Poleng is so remenant of a 80s house party to me. I just love the fact that if the party is cracking, you are definately not leaving that place DRY. Not at all!!! It just has that good Hip Hop vibe regardless of now being a restaurant and getting mad press for the food (some good ass food I might add). I know some folks liked it better as Social Club or Storyville, but its still a dope spot and nights like Friday remind me of why I keep up in there.
Back to the show. So the front room was rocking with Sake 1 (playing an unusual opening slot?), then Pantyrobber, and Mark Spitz. I have never did a party with Pantyrobber, so that was cool, he was cool, and my man came through with HELLA 45s. I haven't seen that since my man Phil at an Infinity Funk or at a Reggae night or something. He was doing his thing with them joints. Sake's set was cool, though even when Sake is average, he is better than 90% of the Djs in the Bay. No knock to you out there, but the man is NICE on the decks. I guess he had to make it to something else so he hit it early, bless the crowd, and was out in a FLASH!!! Mark Spitz, the homie and one of my other favorite Djs in the Bay, played a variety of joints from
Soul to Hyphy and had the crowd going in the front. His selection was diverse enough to catch folks but consitent enough to not have to turn my face up. He rocked it and it was cool to have him on the bill. I can say thought I am glad he kept the Hyphy to a minimum.
On to the Temple of Doom. I didn't catch too much of the show cause I was too busy running around. I did catch what the people said about it, so I can run off that. If anybody got the more indept version and want to hit me off with it, then send it in and we will post it. Secluded Journalists kicked it off and did they thizzle. Wonway and Ayeentee separate are dope, so together they definately got the people up. It was a pleasant surprise to see Haylow (D2S) as their Dj, cause that's the homie. The set was interactive and at one point SJ was on chairs giving the soundman a time trying to keep the feedback from seeping in. Alittle feedback is expected, but too much can be all bad especially in that room. Anyways, dope opening set.
Up next was Public Radio (Me and Deedot). We definatley had to brush the cobwebs off for this one as we haven't hit the stage in like 7 or 8 months together. Deedot has been doing his thing with Melina and I with Finless, so outside of recording, we have been showless. So to get a few shows in before we hit the road again, it not only FUN but necessary. The usual suspect, Moto, joined in for the Squared Circle and one of here new joints. I can say that we had a good show, not the best but from the crowd, folks definatley is feeling the new joints. As we get closer to the tour and release of the project, time will tell what it really i!!!
So like I said, I didn't get to see a bunch of the show. I did get to catch a few Slum Village joints. Honestly, I haven't been a huge Slum Village fan, but I have always felt them cats was solid. The crowd was definatley feeling the well known joints and was vibing to the not so well know. I think the combination of the spot and Slum made it a memorable night. I got really good reviews for my man Phat Kat, who was hella cool and down to earth after the show as well (minus the Pistons comments, lol) and not so great reviews for Illa J (J Dilla's lil brother). I will have to catch the dude at the next show or somthing to get my own opinion on him. Dj Design was in the house as well doing his thing so big ups to him (not to mention he had good reviews for Public Radio).
If you missed it and was buying Inkfat drinks for her birthday at Club Six, then you missed a good one. It will go down again sooner than I think though and you will hopefully be there!!!
